Art Across at FaB18

'Nature Morte Across Art. A curated conversation'

4th June 2018

The special format of our curated conversations has traveled to Bath, and has been presented in connection with one of the curated exhibitions making up FaB18, or Fringe Arts Bath 2018, the eleventh edition of Bath's only annual contemporary visual arts festival.

The exhibition, titled 'Nature Morte' and curated by Heather Griffin, aimed to showcase a variety of contemporary interpretations of traditional Dutch still life. Unlike other exhibitions that have been accompanied by Sara's curated conversations, in this case the very concept of the theme was underpinned by a strong connection to historical painting, and all the artists had consciously been relating to the past. The format of the conversation seemed therefore very apt, and the challenge in this case has been that of highlighting how the different contemporary artists had responded to different aspects of still life.

The evening provided the audience with a rounded presentation of historical still life, in its various aspects, while at the same time offering an opportunity of appreciating the influence and fascination that it still has on creatives of our time, and of observing the ways in which it has evolved since its origins.
